Former Confederate bushwhackers, probably led by Archie Clement, Cole Younger, and Frank James, conduct an armed bank robbery on the Clay County Savings Association in Liberty, Missouri, making out with $58,000 in cash and bonds. It is the first successful armed bank robbery in U.S. history.
