Confederate bushwhackers led by notorious guerrilla Archie Clement (who had taken over for "Bloody Bill" Anderson after his death), demand the surrender of Lexington, Missouri, despite the surrender of General Robert E. Lee a month prior. They fail to capture the town, but they continue to loot Unionist enclaves for some time. The Union Army pursues Clement, leading to an engagement on May 15, 1865, in which Jesse James is severely wounded. Both escape and continue their banditry.
