Lone Jack, Missouri

The town of Lone Jack is best known as the site of the Battle of Lone Jack on August 15, 1862.

District of the Border Headquarters

The Pacific House Hotel opened near the present-day City market in Kansas City in 1860, just prior to the beginning of the Civil War. In 1863, it became the District of the Border headquarters.

Ewing Issues Order No. 11

To remove the Missouri bushwhacker's base of support, and to prevent angry Kansans from leading raids of retribution into Missouri, General Thomas Ewing Jr. issues General Order No. 11, which calls for the forced evacuation of all citizens outside of urban areas and Union bases in Jackson, Cass, Bates, and northern Vernon Counties
