Auburn Kansas. May 21st 1861 Dear Friend

I Take this opportunity of Droping you a few lines to inquire whether you has Received that note & Mortgage I sent it the first of April and have not Received anything from you as yet[.]


I had it Recorded in the Recorder office in Topeka so if you have not Received it I will have to get a certified coppy of it and send to you I have made inquiry from Legal Gentlemen and they say that is the only way to proceed Legally[.]


We are all excitement here[.] War, War, is the cry. – we are organizing throughout the state for home Defence[.] The Indians are quite troublesome out south and we expect to have some trouble with them[.]


We are Ready for Missouri and will meet her half way anytime[.]


We are all well[.] Crops look fine[.]
