Maryville, Missouri July the 10th 1864. C[.]C[.] Graham,
Dear son,

Yours from Ft. Larned is at hand, we were glad to hear that you were well.

We are as well as common. Health is good, but crops are moderate, in this locality. Rains have been partial. In Page Co. there has been rain enough, and some other places, but here things are nearly dried up, gardens are nearly worthless, and the chinch bugs have nearly ruined the small grain of this County, and also are doing much damage to corn.

Poor prospect for crops.

Everything is so high, in price, that it would seem we will be unable to live much longer.

Things seem to be getting worse here, than it ever was.

In all the counties, below this, there are Bushwhackers[,] Rebels, raids[,] fights, and also individual shooting, & men killed in all directions.

The Rebels of this County have been indicted for Treason, and there will be extensive trials.

You speak of coming to the states—I am unable to advise you on the subject.

Hoping that you may do the best you can, we remain your father and mother Amos Graham
Mary J. Graham
